  • Establishment of Society „Zemgale Regional Energy Agency" (ZREA)

In order to facilitate the improvement of energy efficiency in public and private sectors, as well as to ensure the information availability on these issues for residents, Society „Zemgale Regional Energy Agency" (ZREA) was established in the end of 2008 with the assistance by the European Commission's programme "Intelligent Energy for Europe". The Agency started its activity in March of 2009.

The establishment of ZREA is the initiative by Jelgava City Council, involving three other municipalities of the region ‑ Jēkabpils, Auce and Ozolnieki, companies - district heating company "Fortum Jelgava" Ltd. and a housing maintenance management company "Jelgavas Nekustamā īpašuma pārvalde" Ltd., as well as two other societies - "Zinātnes inovāciju un testēšanas centrs" (Scientific Innovation and Testing Centre) and "Zemgales reģionālais nevalstisko organizāciju atbalsta centrs" (Zemgale Regional NGO Support Centre).

  • Objectives

To promote energy efficiency and use of renewable energy resources in public and private sectors as well as to ensure general availability of information on these issues.

  • Tasks

To provide consultancy, informative and educational services in the field of energy to the residents of the region - both, in the office and via the Agency's website.
To create and maintain the energy data base of the region.
To develop regional and municipal planning documents in the field of energy and coordinate respective implementation activities.
To identify and attract investment for energy efficiency improvement purposes.
To facilitate cooperation in the energy sector between legal and physical persons in local, national and international level.
To participate in the development of legal acts, policy planning and normative documents within the framework of its competence.
